South and east China aluminum markets performed quite differently today.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 18 (SMM) –South and east China aluminum markets performed quite differently today.

SMM Expands Statistics Sample of China Aluminum Stocks

Mainstream traded prices in Guangdong fell to 16,030-16,070 yuan/tonne, marking the first big decline this week. This boosted downstream buying appetite. 

Soaring Aluminum Prices Force Some Processors to Suspend Production, SMM Survey

In contrast, both traders and downstream producers in east China showed low buying interest. Mainstream traded prices were 15,960-15,970 yuan/tonne in Shanghai.

China's Aluminum Extrusion Exports Rise 9.7% YoY in August 2026, Top Markets Include Malaysia and Vietnam
According to customs data, China's aluminum extrusion exports totaled 92,500 mt in August 2026, up 3.0% MoM and up 9.7% YoY. Cumulative exports from January to August 2026 reached 629,600 mt, up 8.7% YoY. By destination, the top five markets were Malaysia (7,900 mt), Vietnam (6,700 mt), Israel (6,300 mt), Nigeria (4,200 mt), and the Philippines (3,900 mt).
