Battery Producers Restrict Purchases or Stop Receiving Orders amid Sharp Rise in Cost, SMM Reports

Some battery producers restricted battery purchases, or even stopped receiving orders, as lower battery price growth over that of lead price increased cost sharply.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 9 (SMM) – Motive battery producers in Shandong announced to increase battery price, such as wholesale price of 48v20Ah up to 600 yuan.

In Jiangsu, price of 48v20Ah was 580 yuan on Wednesday. Local retailers were active in battery purchases and built stocks appropriately, triggered by sharp rise in lead price.

Battery producers in Zhejiang held operating rates at around 90% with improving purchase interest of distributors after lead price jumped up. Those producers bough lead based on orders.

However, battery price growth was lower than that of lead price, increasing cost at battery producers sharply. Some battery producers thus restricted battery purchases, or even stopped receiving orders.
