Silicon metal producers in Xinjiang cut output for environmental protection inspections, Shanghai Metals Market learns.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 2 (SMM) – Silicon metal producers in Xinjiang cut output for environmental protection inspections, Shanghai Metals Market learns.

According to SMM sources, 5-6 silicon metal plants in Xinjiang reduced production for environmental factor, and scale of production cuts is not expected to expand further, as the inspections are coming to an end.

On Aug. 2, offers of all grades of goods were up at the Port of Tianjin. Offers by some large producers for #553 silicon metal were up to 12,400 yuan per tonne, with traded prices rising to around 12,100 yuan per tonne at the port. Offers of chemical-grade silicon metal also kept rising, with most for #421 silicon metal heard at around 13,000 yuan per tonne, and traded prices mainly at 12,800 yuan per tonne.

SMM learns that producers arranged production based on orders, and most of them raised offers given low availability, with some holding back sales.

High Costs Drove a Second TiO2 Price Increase Within the Month, While Diverging Domestic and External Demand Tested the Sustainability of the Price Rise [SMM Titanium Spot Flash Report]
[SMM Titanium Spot Update: High Costs Drive a Second Titanium Dioxide Price Increase Within the Month, While Diverging Domestic and External Demand Tests the Sustainability of the Hike] In mid-March, titanium dioxide enterprises in China collectively issued a second round of price increase notices within the month, raising domestic prices by 500 yuan/mt and export prices by $100/mt, mainly because elevated sulphuric acid prices forced cost pass-through. At present, enterprises are operating at full capacity, but mediocre domestic demand and foreign trade constrained by geopolitical factors have intensified market divergence. Expectations of tighter sulphuric acid supply still support confidence to hold prices firm, but the sustainability of the price increase remains to be verified by follow-up demand.
