China Zinc Concentrate Imports to Fall in August after Stabilizing for 2 Months, SMM Reports

China’s zinc concentrate imports will fall to 190,000-200,000 tonnes in August after stabilizing through July and July, SMM expects.

SHANGHAI, Jul 26 (SMM) - China’s zinc concentrate imports will fall to 190,000-200,000 tonnes in August after stabilizing through July and July, SMM expects.

Raw Material Inventory Days Decline at China Zinc Smelters in June, SMM Reports

China’s zinc concentrate imports are expected to be around 210,000 tonnes on average in June and July, flat at May’s, SMM said.

China Refined Zinc Imports to Rise in June but Slide in July, SMM Foresees

But import profit for zinc concentrate shrank and inverted to losses from June 21, which reached nearly 1,000 yuan per tonne at one point. So, zinc concentrate imports may slow.

Outside China, the escalating Middle East conflict pushed up oil prices, the US dollar weakened, and nonferrous metals rebounded across the board. Fundamentals side, LME inventory remains low in absolute terms, the 0-3 backwardation structure holds above $130/mt, spot supply outside China is tight, and LME zinc is showing relative strength.
