SHANGHAI, Jul. 17 (SMM) – Alumina suppliers in Australia and buyers in China have entered a deadlock after Alcoa announced to restart aluminum smelter in Indiana, SMM learned.
Despite declines in Chinese alumina market, Australian suppliers held FOB price firm at $ 307/tonne out of optimism that restart of Alcoa’s smelter would boost alumina prices.
Chinese buyers, on the other hand, could not accept current prices, thus leaving trading virtually stagnant.
