NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States shredded scrap prices fell during the week ended June 09, while major US aluminum scrap commodities weekly average prices on Scrap Register Price Index stayed flat.
According to TSI, US Shredded Scrap Midwest Index dropped by $11 a long ton during the June settlement period ending the week at $296 a long ton. The regions experienced some variation, with coastal markets higher than the interior markets.
Prime scrap settled sideways with shredded settlements ranging from down $5-$15 a long ton. Finished steel in the North American market has been declining of late but at a moderate rate, with multiple mills this week announcing price increases of $30 a short ton.
S&P Global Platts reported a source as noting, “The Midwest got a little weaker than I thought it would initially, people were offering a lot of shred. Dealers don’t want to get stuck with shred going into July.”
The weekly average prices of major US aluminum scrap commodities like 356 auto wheels, 5052 alum clip, 6061 alum extrusion, 6063 extrusion, al/cu rad with iron, al/cu radiator, alum breakage, alum litho sheets, alum old sheet, alum rad with iron, alum radiator, alum transformer, alum transmission, alum turning and mix alum casting on the Scrap Register Prices Index during the week.
