NEW YORK (Scrap Register): US Aluminum industry is keen on Chinese imports as they need Department of commerce to Chinese overcapacity and subsidies and guarantee Canada and the EU should not be affected from the Section 232 trade remedies, as per the Aluminum Association.

The comments from the association to the commerce and after the submission the testimony will be at a public hearing on Section 232 National Security Investigation of Imports of Aluminum.

It is believed that the comments suggests a government-to-government agreement with China to address the overcapacity other than duties which in case implemented should be constricted.

"As such, we urge the Commerce Department and the Administration to focus any action that may be taken in connection with this investigation on the significant negative impacts that are resulting from the massive overcapacity to produce aluminum and aluminum products in China, frequently with the assistance of subsidies provided by the Government of China," as per the Association.
