SHANGHAI (Scrap Register): Chinese crude steel production has increased by 1.2 percent year-on-year to 72.3 million tons during the month of May this year, according to the latest figures released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
According to worldsteel, Global crude steel production was 143.3 million tons in May 2017, a 2.0% increase compared to May 2016. Japan has produced 9.0 million tons of crude steel in May 2017, an increase of 0.1% compared to May 2016.
The global crude steel capacity utilization ratio during the month May 2017 was 71.8%. This is 0.5 percentage points higher than May 2016. Compared to April 2017, it is 1.8 percentage points lower.
