China’s growing need for lighter car body to save energy and reduce emissions will greatly benefit aluminum alloy and magnesium alloy processing industry.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 6 (SMM) –China’s growing need for lighter car body to save energy and reduce emissions will greatly benefit aluminum alloy and magnesium alloy processing industry. 

According to the Made-in-China 2025 Plan, vehicle weight will be reduced by 5%-20% on average by 2020 through use of high-strength steel, Al-Mg alloy, among other composite materials, on automobiles.

Aluminum alloy and magnesium alloy are considered the most ideal materials for lighter car body at present.

China’s demand for automotive aluminum rolled products looks set to reach 544,000 tonnes by 2020, up 562.5% from a mere 82,000 tonnes in 2016, registering a CAGR of over 60%.
