TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for Taiwanese containerized HMS # 1&2 80:20 imports gained by $06 a ton to $238 a ton during the week ended May 12, according to the figures from The Steel Index.

Prices for imported ISRI grade scrap rose as mills restocked inventories and seemed willing to meet higher offers for material.

Support was provided by rises in domestic rebar prices, but deals where limited, with local rebar buyers unwilling to purchase due to the weak domestic demand.

Mills remain cautious however with tight margins and weak demand limiting appetite for further purchases of imported scrap.
