DRI production statistics

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in April this year has surged higher significantly by over 8% when compared with the month before that.

The world DRI production during the month of April 2017 totaled 5.209 million metric tons, rising significantly by 8.05% when compared with the 4.821 million metric tons production achieved during March this year.

According to World Steel data, Iran ranked first in DRI production during the month. India and Mexico were the second and third largest DRI producing nations.

The estimated DRI output by Iran during April this year was 1.565 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in April increased modestly when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by Iran had totaled 1.443 million metric tons during the previous month. India’s DRI production in April 2017 totaled 1.250 million metric tons, declining marginally by 3% when compared with the previous month output of 1.291 million metric tons. The Mexican DRI output in April this year amounted to 540,000 metric tons, which is slightly lower than 558,000 metric tons output recorded during March this year.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in April 2017 is as follows: Canada (152), Saudi Arabia (429), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (157), Peru (Nil), Venezuela (70), Egypt (308), Libya (69), South Africa (79), Qatar (235) and United Arab Emirates (353).

Southeast Asia Lead Supply Tightens, Premiums Rise Due to Environmental Measures and Shipping Delays
[SMM Lead Market News] It was learned that since April, affected by environmental protection rectification and extended shipping cycles, lead smelters in Southeast Asia have experienced production cuts and shutdowns. Lead ingot supply has gradually tightened, spot premiums have risen, and high-grade lead ingots have even become difficult to source. Currently, the SMM Malaysia lead ingot 99.99-99.995% CIF premium was quoted at $150-170/mt, with a few suppliers once again making exploratory offers at a premium of $200/mt, though no transactions have been concluded at this price.
