NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production slightly decreased by 0.2 percent to 1,728,000 net tons in the week ended on May 13, 2017, while the capability utilization rate was 74.1 percent, this is according to the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

United States domestic raw steel production was 1,732,000 net tons in the week ended May 13, 2016 while the capability utilization then was 74.1 percent.

Production for the week ended May 13, 2017 is down 0.5 percent from the previous week ended May 6, 2017 when production was 1,737,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 74.5 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 13, 2017 was 39,924,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.3 percent. That is up 3.2 percent from the 31,912,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 72.1 percent.
