Cochilco: Chile Copper Output Slides in First Quarter on Strike

Cochilco data showed Chile’s copper production slid 14.6%% in the first quarter of 2017 due mainly to the strike at the world’s largest copper mine, wenhua.com reported.

SHANGHAI, May 15 (SMM) - Cochilco data showed Chile’s copper production slid 14.6%% in the first quarter of 2017 due mainly to the strike at the world’s largest copper mine, wenhua.com reported.

Chile produced 1.19 million tonnes of copper, compared to 1.39 million tonnes in the same period of last year.

The strike which lasted for over one month at BHP Billiton’s Escondida copper mine hurt the country’s copper output.
