Chalco: China to Slash Aluminum Production during Winter Heating Season

China might cut aluminum production by as much as 1-1.5 million tonnes during winter heating season, a high-ranking executive from Chalco said on May 4.

SHANGHAI, May 10 (SMM) –China might cut aluminum production by as much as 1-1.5 million tonnes during winter heating season, a high-ranking executive from Chalco said on May 4. 

The heating season will start from November and last four months. 

Shandong Gets Tough on Illegal Aluminum Capacity Crackdowns

China’s crackdowns on illegal aluminum capacity will affect capacity by 3-8 million tonnes, Lu Dongliang, Deputy President at Chalco said. 

Aluminum consumption in China will grow 7-10% this year and the next and aluminum capacity in China will climb to 45 million tonnes by 2020, Lu added.

Japan's Imports Rise 10.2% YoY in Feb, Exports to US and China Decline
According to data released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance, Japan’s import value rose 10.2% YoY in February this year, while total export value increased 4.2%. By country, Japan’s exports to the US fell 8% YoY, marking the third consecutive month of decline, with auto exports in particular down 14.8%. Meanwhile, Japan’s export value to China decreased 10.9%, while its import value surged 35.4%.
