SHANGHAI, May. 8 (SMM) – Teck Resources Limited reported May 7 that unusual spring weather conditions and rapid snow melt have resulted in water inflow into the Lornex and Valley pits at Highland Valley Copper Operations (HVC). Mining operation has been temporarily suspended in the affected areas.
Other unaffected mining areas remain in normal production at present.
Highland Valley Copper’s tailings management facility has not been affected by the flood.
Highland Valley Copper produced 16,400 tonnes of output in the first quarter of 2017. Any effects on the mine’s production will be limited, SMM said.
