Profit Expands Further at Aluminum Producers in China, SMM Reports

Profit margins at aluminum producers in China have been improving steadily of late thanks to lower costs, SMM found.

SHANGHAI, May 3 (SMM) – Profit margins at aluminum producers in China have been improving steadily of late thanks to lower costs, SMM found.

Despite lower aluminum prices, falling alumina prices have helped expand the average profit to 1,400 yuan/tonne at aluminum smelters surveyed by SMM.

The SMM average spot aluminum price was 14,106 yuan/tonne in the week ending April 30, down 74 yuan/tonne on a weekly basis.
