China’s bauxite imports will display a mixed picture in Q2 after a 3.6% year-on-year increase to 13.92 million tonnes in Q1, alu.cn reported.

SHANGHAI, May 2 (SMM) – China’s bauxite imports will display a mixed picture in Q2 after a 3.6% year-on-year increase to 13.92 million tonnes in Q1, alu.cn reported.

Bauxite supply from Guinea will likely continue increasing in Q2. SMB-WAP’s daily bauxite shipping capacity in Guinea has reached around 120,000 tonnes.

Indonesia will resume bauxite exports in Q2 as Antam obtained 850,000 tonne export quota at the end of March.

Bauxite mining ban in Malaysia will be extended to the end of June, so bauxite supply in the country will not improve.

China is likely to step up bauxite imports from India before the monsoon in the country arrives in June.
