India likely to overcome Japan as second largest Steel producing country

MUMBAI (Scrap Register): India's Steel production during the month of March this year increased 8.2 percent to 9 million tons, which is highest among the major producing countries. The world's average production increased by4.6 percent during March.

India's Steel production during the first three months of this year surpassed others by a humongous 10.7 percent to 25.76 million tons growth. During the same period, the global Steel production was seen increased by 5.7 percent to 410 million tons.

If this current trend follows, India will soon emerge as the world's second largest Steel producing country, overcoming Japan, while China tops the list. China produced about 201 million tons of Steel during the January-March period.

India's finished steel products output is likely to reach 88.6 million tonnes in the current year, registering an increase of 5.7 per cent. India produced about 83.5 million tons of finished Steel products last year, as per World Steel Association. It is estimated that by 2018 India's finished Steel output will increase to 94.9 million tons.
