Malaysia Prolongs Ban on Bauxite Mining by 3 Months to Axe Stockpiles

SHANGHAI, Mar. 28 (SMM) - Malaysia extended its ban on bauxite mining by additional three months until June 30, 2017, wenhua.com reported.

The country takes such actions to get rid of resting bauxite inventories.

Bauxite stockpiles in Kuantan, Pahang, a major bauxite producing state in the country, are still 2.15 million tonnes. Stockpiles were 5.40 million tonnes before the execution of the mining ban.

Malaysian government has extended the 3-month ban for many times, which came into force in January 2016.
