SHANGHAI, Mar. 28 (SMM) – Inbound shipments of nickel ore to China were 1.09 million tonnes in February, up both on a monthly and yearly basis, according to China Customs.
The imports were up 0.42 percent month-on-month, and 73 percent year-on-year, according to the data.

SMM attributes the small month-on-month growth to the supply of nickel ore from Indonesia, and the big yearly growth was mainly because China had begun sourcing ores from new suppliers. Moreover, some mines in Zambales, the Philippines resumed ore shipment earlier than the year earlier, also contributing the sharp rise on a yearly basis.

China’s nickel ore imports during the first two months of 2017 were 2.18 million tonnes, up 30.23 percent on a yearly basis, according to China Customs.
