SMM 2017 Copper & Aluminum Summit: China Aluminum Consumption to Peak in 2020

China has topped the list of global aluminum producing countries from 2001, with total output of 230 million tonnes over the past 16 years, SMM reported from the SMM 2017 Copper & Aluminum Summit.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 27 (SMM) – China has topped the list of global aluminum producing countries from 2001, with total output of 230 million tonnes over the past 16 years, SMM reported from the SMM 2017 Copper & Aluminum Summit.

Aluminum consumption reached 24 kilograms per capita in 2016, with 130 kilograms reserves per capita which totaled 178 million tonnes.

China will enter peak aluminum consumption period in 2020, and per capita consumption will hover above 35 kilograms.

China's Auto Sales Drop 5.1% in August, NEV Sales Surge 17.8% YoY, Exports Up 65.3%
CAAM data shows that in August, China's auto sales were 2.712 million units, down 5.1% YoY. Among them, NEV performance was impressive, with sales reaching 1.643 million units, up 17.8% YoY, accounting for 60.6% of total new vehicle sales. In terms of exports, auto exports in August were 1.01 million units, up 65.3% YoY; NEV exports were 526,000 units, up 1.3x YoY.
