Li Shilong, Vice President of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association Recycling Metal Branch (CMRA), indicated on the Summit that construction and transportation industries are major sources of aluminum scrap in China.

As 1.5 kg of aluminum can be recycled per square meter, 525 million kg of aluminum can be recycled from construction industry every year with floor area at 350 million square meters.

China’s penetration of motor vehicles was 290 million sets as of late 2016 with auto penetration at 194 million sets. As 250 kg of aluminum can be recycled per vehicle, there will be 100 million tonnes of aluminum can be recycled from construction industry in 2030.

[SMM Analysis] US Refined Copper Tariff Uncertainty Returns—What Does It Mean for Global Copper Scrap?
[SMM Analysis: US Refined Copper Tariff Uncertainty Returns—What Does It Mean for Global Copper Scrap?] US refined copper tariff uncertainty is reshaping global copper flows. If tariffs proceed, a wider COMEX-LME spread could draw more cathode into the US and support scrap demand elsewhere. If delayed or cancelled, the spread may narrow and weaken scrap payabilities. However, low global scrap inventories and tight VAT-invoiced supply in China make a sharp correction unlikely.

[SMM Steel] Indian HRC Export Offers Hold Firm as European Buyers Resist Higher Prices
[India Export] Indian HRC export indications for Europe remained at 590–600USD/tonne FOB India on September 11, with European discussions continuing at 695–700USD/tonne CFR. Some sellers mentioned 715USD/tonne CFR North Europe, but no transaction was confirmed at that level. Indian sellers held their position as reduced European spot availability, higher energy costs and expectations of seasonal production cuts supported regional mill pricing. Northern European HRC prices were around 730–750EUR/tonne EXW, while offers at 770EUR/tonne EXW continued to meet buyer resistance. Italian HRC prices were around 720–730EUR/tonne EXW, although trading remained limited as downstream buyers adopted a wait-and-see approach. Firm European domestic values consequently supported Indian export indications, but subdued spot activity, quota exposure and uncertainty over customs-clearance timing kept importers selective at the upper end of the CFR range.
