India Nickel Scrap prices decline; Nickel Futures fall further 4.5 percent

India's major nickel scrap prices declined on the Scrap Register Price Index as on Wednesday, while nickel futures prices at India's Multi Commodity Exchange fell further 4.5 percent tracking the weak

MUMBAI (Scrap Register): India's major nickel scrap prices declined on the Scrap Register Price Index as on Wednesday, while nickel futures prices at India's Multi Commodity Exchange fell further 4.5 percent tracking the weakness from LME Nickel. 

According to the Scrap Register Price Index, the major nickel scrap commodities like nickel cathode, nickel plate(4x24), nickel plate(9x9) and nickel russian(4x4) traded down on Wednesday.

In futures, the most active March nickel contract on Multi Commodity Exchange dropped by 4.5 percent to Rs. 678.90 per kilogram on Wednesday from previous close of Rs. 710.90 per kilogram. The MXC nickel prices touched an intra-day high of Rs. 713.30 per kilogram and an intra-day low of Rs. 676.60 per kilogram during Wednesday.
 

Nickel settled 4.2% lower at $10,200/ton on the London Metal Exchange, and dropped 8.1% in two days, the most since August 2015.

Nickel prices concluded their biggest two-day loss since 2015 after PT Aneka Tambang, a top Indonesian nickel producer, said it is taking steps to resume low-grade ore exports.

So far, the FOB price of Indonesian MHP nickel is $15,654/mt Ni, and the FOB price of Indonesian MHP cobalt is $49,740/mt Co. The MHP payables (against SMM battery-grade nickel sulphate index) are 86-87, and the payable indicator for MHP cobalt element (against SMM refined cobalt (Rotterdam warehouse)) is 91. The FOB price of Indonesian high-grade nickel matte is $16,017/mt Ni.

Indonesia's state power company (PLN) Maluku and North Maluku branch officially revised the power purchase agreement with Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) on March 2, 2026, increasing the purchased excess power from 8.5 MW to 11 MW. PLN General Manager Noer Soeratmoko stated that the additional 2.5 MW capacity aims to address the growing electricity demand of residents and small enterprises in the central Halmahera region, ensuring the stability of the central Halmahera power grid during peak periods. IWIP President He Xiaoqing (Kevin He) noted that this collaboration is a significant step for the industrial park in supporting local energy supply, and by enhancing cooperation with PLN, it can rapidly improve regional power security without the need to construct new power plants.
