NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States shredded scrap prices remained stable during the week ended January 20, while major US aluminum scrap commodities weekly average prices on Scrap Register Price Index stayed steady.
According to TSI, US Shredded Scrap Index remained flat during the week at $312 a long ton. US East Coast export yards have dropped their buying prices $10-15 a long ton this week and market participants are anticipating further declines, as reported by S&P Global Platts.
The price cuts came about after a cargo sale came to light that was completed late last week at $282 a ton CFR Turkey for HMS 80:20. This broke a month-long quiet period for US-Turkey sales. Many US players have pointed to a “soft” market looking ahead.
The weekly average prices of major US aluminum scrap commodities like 356 auto wheels, 5052 alum clip, 6061 alum extrusion, 6063 extrusion, al/cu rad with iron, al/cu radiator, alum breakage, alum litho sheets, alum old sheet, alum rad with iron, alum radiator, alum transformer, alum transmission, alum turning and mix alum casting showed a steady trend during the week.
