Weak Long Momentum to Constrain Zinc Price Gains, SMM Predicts

LME Zinc is expected to move between $2,550-2,650 per tonne next week, SMM predicts.

SHANGHAI, Jan. 6 (SMM) - LME Zinc is expected to move between $2,550-2,650 per tonne next week, SMM predicts.

SHFE March zinc will fluctuate between 20,800-21,500 yuan per tonne. Speculative investors prefer short-time operation for now, SMM explained.

Base metals will benefit from increased inflation. However, long momentum will be weak due to low-demand season for zinc. So, zinc will stay range-bound next week, SMM said.

[Overseas Zinc Concentrate Production] Buenaventura released its 2025 Q4 financial report. Zinc production for the quarter was 8,400 mt, up 43%% YoY. Of this, Uchucchacua’s 2025 Q4 zinc concentrate production was 7,700 mt, and Tambomayo’s 2025 Q4 zinc concentrate production was 780 mt. Full-year 2025 Buenaventura zinc concentrate production totaled 29,000 mt, up 2% YoY.
