Base Metals to Stay Weak, SMM Says

Base metal prices on the SHFE are expected to stay weak on Wednesday, Shanghai Metals Market predicts.

SHANGHAI, Jan. 4 (SMM) – Base metal prices on the SHFE are expected to stay weak on Wednesday, Shanghai Metals Market predicts.

“Both LME and SHFE staged declines during the first trading day of 2017 despite stabilizing at the tail of trading, and overall sentiment will remain weak, with slight upward revising expected,” SMM says.

Key Macroeconomic Indicators for Base Metal Prices (2017-1-4)

Copper: 45,150-46,000 yuan per tonne

Aluminum: 12,520-12,760 yuan per tonne

Lead: 17,000-18,000 yuan per tonne

Zinc: 20,750-21,000 yuan per tonne

Tin: 148,000-150,000 yuan per tonne

Nickel: 82,500-85,500 yuan per tonne   

Note: Prices all above are for most-actively traded contract on the SHFE.
