Hebei will cut more iron and steel production in 2017 than originally planned, the Provincial Government said.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 21 (SMM) – Hebei will cut more iron and steel production in 2017 than originally planned, the Provincial Government said.

Hebei announced to cut 17.14 million tonnes of iron capacity and 19.86 million tonnes for steel in 2017, higher than the original targets of 16.24 million tonnes of iron, and 15.62 million tonnes of steel, according to the Provincial Economic Work Conference on December 20..

Hebei, a main producing province of iron and steel in China, face a big pressure in eliminating excessive iron and steel capacities, especially when steel prices strengthened. But, the Provincial Government expressed its determination in the elimination efforts.

Recently, many cities in China have activated red alerts for heavy air pollution after recent severe haze days, and production at local industrial enterprises has been disrupted in some regions.
