NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States shredded scrap prices edged up during the week ended October 28, while major US aluminum scrap commodities weekly average prices on Scrap Register Price Index remained flat.
According to TSI, US Midwest shredded scrap index increased slightly by $1 a long ton during the week to $202 a long ton (del. Mill). There was varying talk amongst market participants about what direction the market may take in November.
Some believed that scrap prices could recover the US$20 a long ton lost in October, while others were more cautious and predicting prices to remain sideways or depressed.
East Coast bulk scrap export prices have, however, moved up to $230 a long ton during the week, resulting in coastal terminals raising their offer prices to in-land suppliers.
If exporters are able to disrupt domestic scrap supply, then prices could be driven up for November buy week, which is expected to begin next week.
The weekly average scrap prices of Al/Cu Rad with Iron, Al/Cu Radiator, Alum Breakage, Alum Litho Sheets, Alum Old Sheet, Alum Transformer and Mix Alum Casting continued to remained flat during the week.
