SHANGHAI, Nov. 21 (SMM) – China sourced bauxite from more countries in September to meet growing demand from alumina industry, SMM understood.
Despite falling imports from Australia and Guinea, imports from India, Solomon Islands and Fiji increased significantly.
China Aluminum Inventories Grow for Three Consecutive Weeks, SMM Reports
Customs data showed China imported 4.47 million tonnes of bauxite in September, down 2.87% from a year ago, but up 0.2% from August. Imports from Australia tumbled 22.4% month-on-month to 1.74 million tonnes, and those from Guinea slid 3.3% month-on-month to 970,000 tonnes.
Bauxite imports should continue growing in the future as rising alumina prices have given alumina producers incentive to step up or resume production, SMM expects.
