SMM surveys of battery inventories at 30 Chinese lead-acid battery producers currently and finds the following insights.

SHANGHAI, Oct. 25 (SMM) - SMM surveys of battery inventories at 30 Chinese lead-acid battery producers currently, including 17 motive battery producers, 10 ignition battery producers and 3 backup battery producers. And total annual capacity was 20.4 million KvAh and 3.97 mt for total annual lead consumption.

SMM finds that the average battery inventory can be used for 15.95 day in September, down 3.76 day than August’s level.

The decline in inventories is due mainly to following four factors. First, battery traders increased purchases after surging lead price in September, growing orders at battery producers. Second, vehicle demand had been stimulated before the end of half-payment policy on vehicle purchase, with automobile sales and production both up over 20% both on a monthly and yearly basis. This also strengthened orders at battery producers. Third, G20 Summit, held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang in early September, restricted operation at battery producers and disrupted transportation as well. Fourth, battery producers left holidays for 1 or 3 days for China’s Mid-Autumn Festival from September 15-17. Battery supply thus tightened, and some battery producers even reported a very low level after orders increased significantly.
