China’s zinc concentrate supply remains in shortages in September, according to the latest SMM survey.

SHANGHAI, Oct. 17 (SMM) - China’s zinc concentrate supply remains in shortages in September, according to the latest SMM survey.

Such situations are especially severe at those that have low self-owned ores.

Import business was depressed due to severe import losses and Chinese yuan’s devaluation. TCs of imported zinc concentrate are now $80-100 per dry metric tonne, with trading between $80-90 growing.

Zinc smelters are building stocks for winter production. Meanwhile, operating rates at zinc smelters continued to rise in October. When coupled with new capacities coming online, domestic zinc concentrate supply will continue to tighten, SMM predicts.
