Zijin Mining: Copper Reserves at Kamoa Mine Rise to 33.34 Mln tonnes

Zijin Mining Group announced copper reserves at the Kamoa copper mine project in Congo, a JV with Ivanhoe Mines Limited, increased to 33.34 million tonnes, according to cnfol.com.

SHANGHAI, Oct. 14 (SMM) - Zijin Mining Group announced copper reserves at the Kamoa copper mine project in Congo, a JV with Ivanhoe Mines Limited, increased to 33.34 million tonnes, according to cnfol.com.

Amec Foster Wheeler estimated controllable copper ore reserves were 192 million tonnes at the Kakula section of Kamoa copper mining area, based on 1% cutoff grade. Copper reserves were 6.63 million tonnes, with grade averaging 3.45%.

Deducted copper ore reserves were 101 million tonnes using 1% cutoff grade. Copper reserves were 2.76 million tonnes, with the average grade of 2.74%.

So, copper reserves at the Kamoa mining zone increase from 23.95 million tonnes to 33.34 million tonnes, becoming the largest copper mine in Africa and world’s top 10 copper mine.

Zijin Mining holds a 54.4% stake in Kamoa mine, and 17 million tonnes of its copper reserves.
