BHP Billiton to Put Olympic Dam Copper Mine back in to Operation after Power Outage

SHANGHAI, Oct. 13 (SMM) - BHP Billiton is preparing to restart production at Olympic Dam copper mine after power outage, wenhua.com reports.

The Olympic Dam copper mine ceased production after power supply in southern Australia was cut off by a storm September 28.

Average daily copper output at BHP Billiton thus fell 567 tonnes, which caused $27 million in losses per day, based on the company’s 203,000 tonnes copper output last year and current copper price of $4,800 per tonne.

BHP Billiton will announce how the power outage affected its output in its report October 19.
