NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States shredded scrap prices fell further during the week ended August 12, while major US aluminum scrap commodities weekly average prices on Scrap Register Price Index remained steady.
According to TSI, US Midwest shredded scrap index dropped $4/long ton this week to $235 a long ton (del. Mill). US steel producers noted muted finished steel demand in August, which in turn had a significant impact on scrap negotiations.
One Midwest supplier reported to S&P Global Platts that he was hoping to complete a sideways deal for shredded scrap, but had to ultimately go down $5 a ton.
Scrap from the western parts of US being offered into the market, as well as imported European scrap in the Gulf, had further negative impacts on the price.
The weekly average scrap prices of 5052 Alum Clip, Al/Cu Rad with Iron, Alum Breakage 50%, Alum Litho Sheets, Alum Rad with Iron, Alum Radiator, Alum Transformer, Alum Transmission, Alum Turning, Mix Alum Casting, 6061 Alum Extrusion, 6063 Extrusion, Al/Cu Radiator, and Alum Old Sheet, 356 Auto Wheels showed a flat trend during the week.
