Freight cost of long-distance delivery will increase 25% at Chinese zinc mines and zinc smelters after the release of Regulations of Highway Administration for Overload Vehicles.

SHANGHAI, Sep. 22 (SMM) - Freight cost of long-distance delivery will increase 25% at Chinese zinc mines and zinc smelters after the release of Regulations of Highway Administration for Overload Vehicles effective September 21, SMM reports.

Loaded capacity of a vehicle transporting zinc concentrate or refined zinc used to be 8-10 tonnes above the vehicle’s design limit, SMM understands.

But no mines or smelters raised freight charges yet. Any rise in goods value from possible freight charge increase may be transferred to downstream and end-users, one trader told SMM.

No market participants snapped up goods after the news, and most purchased as needed.
