US Raw Steel Production Decreases 3.3% to 1,632,000 Net Tons

United States domestic raw steel production decreased by 3.3% year-on-year to 1,632,000 net tons in the week ended September 17 while the capability utilization rate was 69.8 percent.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production decreased by 3.3% year-on-year to 1,632,000 net tons in the week ended September 17 while the capability utilization rate was 69.8 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, US raw steel production was 1,687,000 net tons in the week ended September 17, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 70.5 percent. 

Production for the week ended September 17, 2016 is up 0.4 percent from the previous week ending September 10, 2016 when production was 1,626,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 69.5 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through September 17, 2016 was 64,177,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.2 percent. That is down 1.4 percent from the 65,061,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 72.1 percent.
