China Alumina Output to Recover in September on Production Restarts, SMM Says

The average daily alumina output in China will recover in September due to production restarts from accident and new capacity release, SMM expects.

SHANGHAI, Sep. 18 (SMM) – The average daily alumina output in China will recover in September due to production restarts from accident and new capacity release, SMM expects.

SMM sees China’s alumina output at 4.9 million tonnes in September, up 3.86% from a year ago. Luoyang Xiangjiang Wanji Alumina Plant, which shut down following red mud dam landslide in early August, reopened in late August and Shanxi Huaxing Alumina, affected by flooding earlier, also resumed production, SMM learned.

China’s alumina output totaled 4.98 million tonnes in August, up 2.89% from a year ago, but down 1.41% from July due to closures at two major producers following accident or flooding.
