Guinea to Replace Australia as Top Bauxite Supplier to China by 2017

Guinea is expected to overtake Australia as top bauxite supplier to China next year, wenhua.com reported.

SHANGHAI, Sep. 12 (SMM) –Guinea is expected to overtake Australia as top bauxite supplier to China next year, wenhua.com reported.

Guinea will export 13 million tonnes of bauxite to China this year, well above 300,000 tonnes in 2015, Ron Knapp, Secretary General of the International Aluminium Institute predicts.  

China’s bauxite imports soared from 30 million tonnes in 2010 to 56 million tonnes in 2015.

Proven bauxite reserves in Guinea now account for 1/4 of global total, data from the United States Geological Survey showed. 

Australia is expected to export 19 million tonnes of bauxite to China in 2016, lower than 19.6 million tonnes in 2015, while Malaysia is expected to export less than 8 million tonnes of bauxite to China, also below 24 million tonnes in 2015.
