SHANGHAI, Sep. 9 (SMM) –Many aluminum processors in Henan’s Gongyi and Inner Mongolia halted production in July and August due to checks by central environmental protection inspection team, and the issue is far from over yet, SMM understands.
Aluminum processors in Gongyi are required to complete upgrade from coal-fired facilities to natural gas-powered ones before November 3, SMM learned.
The production suspensions in Gongyi and Inner Mongolia had small impact on aluminum demand, though.
China has stepped up environmental crackdowns in recent years. For example, Luoyang Xiangjiang Wanji Aluminum Co. got fines of up to over 96 million yuan in just one year and a half.
