NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic Raw Steel production declined 3.1% year-on-year to 1,656,000 net tons in the week ended September 3 while the capability utilization rate was 70.8 percent, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
US domestic raw steel production was 1,709,000 net tons in the week ended September 3, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 71.5 percent.
Domestic raw steel production for the week ended September 3, 2016 is up 0.9 percent from the previous week ended August 27, 2016 when production was 1,642,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 70.2 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through September 3, 2016 was 60,919,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.4 percent. That is down 1.2 percent from the 61,688,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 72.3 percent.
