TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for containerized Taiwanese imports of HMS # 1&2 80:20 advanced further to $205 a ton during the week ended July 29, as per the latest figures from The Steel Index.

According to TSI, Taiwanese containerized scrap import prices increased by $3 a ton to $205/t CFR Taiwan port. Prices of ISRI grade scrap have been moving up in the international scrap market therefore increasing pressure on Taiwanese mills.

Offer prices edged up for imported scrap into Taiwan but mills struggled with domestic sales for finished steel products.

For obsolete scrap, mills did increase their bids but were unwilling to meet the offered prices requested by suppliers and thus will wait and see how the market will evolve.

Market sentiments as to whether scrap prices will increase or decrease are mixed with differing views.
