ANKARA (Scrap Register): Turkish HMS 1/2 80:20 scrap import weekly average prices (CFR Iskenderun Port, Turkey) continued to fall to $225 a ton during the week ended August 26, as per the latest figures from the Steel Index.

Trading activity has picked up after the quiet summer break, with a number of deep and short sea cargoes confirmed throughout the week. Prices remained in the $223-227/t range however.

There has been some uncertainty in the market as to where near-term price levels are, with one Turkish agent believing that lower Baltic prices came about due to sellers waiting too long prior to making bookings.

On the other hand, some European traders saw the market remaining near the upper end of the range as a result of sales from the US.
