US Raw Steel production decreases 4.5% to 1,611,000 net tons

United States domestic raw steel production was 1,611,000 net tons in the week ended October 1, 2016 while the capability utilization rate was 68.9 percent.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production was 1,611,000 net tons in the week ended October 1, 2016 while the capability utilization rate was 68.9 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

Production was 1,687,000 net tons in the week ended October 1, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 70.5 percent. The current week production represents a 4.5 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. 

Production for the week ended October 1, 2016 is up 0.4 percent from the previous week ended September 24, 2016 when production was 1,605,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 68.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through October 1, 2016 was 67,178,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 71.8 percent. That is down 1.8 percent from the 68,434,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 72.1 percent.
