LONDON (Scrap Register): The Southern European hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices remained flat week-on-week at €401 a ton during the week ended July 15, as per the latest figures from the Steel Index.

North European HR coil spot prices fell €8 a ton to close at €415 a ton ex-works. This week’s activity indicated a healthy price spread of bookings across Northern Europe.

Some deals for large tonnages were done around the €410/t mark whilst other orders were pegged closer to €420-425/t.

Buyers continue to approach the market with caution, with the general sentiment that prices are expected to fall come Q4.

In Italy, Ilva was heard to be offering HRC nearer to €390/t, though most other Italian suppliers held asking prices stable between €400-405/t.
