SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries dropped significantly during the month of July this year. The total monthly output declined by 9.7% to 3.444 Million tonnes (Mt). The North American crude steel output too declined slightly by 0.4% during the month.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during July was 356,000 tonnes, down considerably by 17.4% than the July 2015 production of 445,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.705 Million tonnes of crude steel, dropping by 6.0% when compared to 2.877 Million tonnes production achieved during July last year. The output by Chile recovered by nearly 5.5% to 100,000 tonnes in July this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia decreased marginally by 1.7% to 110,000 tonnes in July this year.

Ecuador’s crude steel output dropped significantly by 18.6% on year-on-year basis. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 50,000 tonnes in July this year, down when compared with 61,000 tonnes during July last year.  Paraguay’s crude steel output declined sharply by 28.9% during the month.

The crude steel output by Peru increased modestly by 9.1% year-on-year. The crude steel output of Uruguay dropped significantly by over 42.3% when compared with the year before levels. Venezuelan production dropped considerably by 88.9% year-on-year from 135,000 tonnes to 15,000 tonnes.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the initial seven-month period of year 2016 in comparison with the corresponding seven-month period during 2015.
