China’s refined copper output will fall back in August due to impact from G20 Summit and smelter maintenance, SMM predicts.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 8 (SMM) – China’s refined copper output will fall back in August due to impact from G20 Summit and smelter maintenance, SMM predicts.

SMM, based on our survey of production plans at smelters, sees the country’s refined copper output at 659,000 tonnes in August.

Copper smelters in Hangzhou’s surrounding areas have received notice to halt production before and during the G20 Summit to be held in early September. Some smelters will conduct maintenance in August. These will hit copper production, SMM analyst explained.

China’s refined copper output hit 668,000 tonne in July, up 3.25% from June and 4.4% from a year ago, SMM statistics showed. SMM attributes the growth to completion of maintenance at large smelters.
