ATLANTA (Scrap Monster): Atlanta-based aluminum major Novelis has partnered with Atlanta Falcons to launch a new recycling campaign for aluminum cans. The campaign titled ‘Recycle for Good’ challenges Falcon fans to recycle 3 million UBCs throughout the 2016 football season. The campaign is also joined by other partners including Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation and the Georgia Dome.

The collected cans will be recycled at Novelis’ Greensboro, Georgia facility. The proceeds will be used to fund Habitat for Humanity in building home for families in need. The value generated through recycling of 3 million aluminum cans will be enough to fund the entire construction of the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity home. Incidentally, Novelis is the official recycling partner for the Atlanta Falcons.

As part of the campaign, Novelis will provide recycling bags in the tailgate areas around the Georgia Dome during all 2016 home matches. A designated drop-off location will be arranged on the West Plaza. The company will also sponsor a sorting program so as to ensure that maximum number of aluminum cans is recycled throughout the season. In addition, can collection centers will be set up at West Side Works location and the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity headquarters, which will be kept open throughout the season. Fans could use these collection centers to drop aluminum cans during away games.

According to Sil Colalancia, director, recycling, Novelis North America, aluminum cans are the most valuable material in the recycling bin. The campaign aims to educate fans about the true benefits of recycling. He reminded that fans are actually throwing away money when they throw away UBCs in trash.

Scott Jenkins, general manager, Mercedes-Benz Stadium stated that the ‘Recycle for Good’ campaign will augment its efforts to become the first professional sports stadium to achieve LEED Platinum certification. The campaign in partnership with the world’s largest aluminum recycler provides an opportunity to reinforce its sustainability efforts and to encourage good recycling habits towards the creation of a better environment.

Meantime Rich McKay, president and CEO of the Atlanta Falcons urge the fans to rise up to the occasion in facing the challenge. The campaign is expected to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and community and engage its fans in environment-friendly activities, he added.

Lisa Gordon, president and CEO, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity thanked Novelis for being part of its efforts to build affordable, green, quality homes for working families in Atlanta.

As per studies, recycling of aluminum cans saves nearly 95% of the energy and the greenhouse gas emissions associated with primary aluminum production. It also reduces waste to landfill. It is estimated that more than $70 million worth of aluminum goes to Georgia landfills every single year.

Fed to Keep Large Banks' Capital Levels Unchanged, Postpones Stress Test Reforms Until 2027
The US Fed has announced that it will maintain the capital levels of large banks unchanged during the upcoming stress test cycle (corresponding to the 2026 cycle). At the same time, the US Fed is planning multidimensional reforms to this annual test, aiming to enhance its transparency. The US Fed's Vice Chair for Supervision, Bowman, revealed that adjustments to the stress capital buffer requirements for large banks will be postponed until 2027. This move is intended to provide the US Fed with sufficient time to evaluate potential flaws that may be exposed in its testing models when assessing banks' financial conditions under simulated economic downturn scenarios.
