Heavy Rains Disrupt Production and Railway Transportation, SMM Reports

From late June, provinces, including Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Guangdong, are suffering from heavy rainfall. What’s impact from the rain on metals producers in those regions?

SHANGHAI, Jul. 8 (SMM) - From late June, provinces, including Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Guangdong, are suffering from heavy rainfall.

What’s impact from the rain on metals producers in those regions?

SMM surveys find that some local metal producers have been forced to suspend production, and some even have halted production for half a month. Moreover, the heavy rains have also disrupted railway transportation in some regions, with details as followed.

One copper cable manufacturer in Wuxi stopped production from Jul. 5th and the date to restart is uncertain. The producer consumes 120,000 tonnes of copper every year. 

Another copper plate/sheet, strip manufacturer in Jiangsu has halted production for 2 weeks. The halt has negatively affected its copper plate/sheet, strip output by 300-400 tonne, and the time of restarting also remains unknown.

One aluminum plate/sheet, strip, and foil producer in Anqing, Anhui Province ceased production recently. But, the company chose to continue production at other manufacturers, offsetting the loss. The company has annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes.

A copper enterprise in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, suffers limited impact from heavy rains. The producer, which originally scheduled to take unit maintenance in July, has advanced its unit overall to Jun. 30- Jul.5. Output loss of refined copper and copper rod is estimated to be less than 1,000 tonnes and 2,000 tonnes, respectively.  

One copper cable manufacturer in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, suspending production for 3 days, has restored production, with limited impact.
