SHANGHAI, Jul. 4 (SMM) – China exported 20.31 million units of lead-acid batteries in May, growing 5.96% MoM and 3.98% YoY, based on data announced by Customs.
The growth was mainly driven by strong demand for solar cells from India, which is busy in accelerating use of solar energy in its country. Exports to India hit 4.69 million units in May, a year-on-year growth of 18.46%.
Demand from Bangladesh was also strong but the country increased import tariff for lead-acid batteries, effectively June 2016.
Of the exports, ignition batteries accounted for 1.75 million units, up 1.53% MoM but down 0.37% YoY.
