Malaysia to Extend Bauxite Mining Ban by another Two Months

Malaysia announced on Thursday to to extend bauxite mining ban by another two months till September 14, citing still high stocks in the country, wenhua.com reported.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 1 (SMM) –Malaysia announced on Thursday to to extend bauxite mining ban by another two months till September 14, citing still high stocks in the country, wenhua.com reported.

The federal government and Pahang government said in a joint statement that there are still about 5.4 million tonnes of bauxite at the Port of Kuantan waiting to be sold.

As of June 1, the country exported just 187,438 tonnes of bauxite since implementation of mining ban in January, according to the joint statement.
